Charity Quilt: Cracker Scraps Blocks

Our guild supports local nonprofit The Restoration House of East Tennessee by providing quilts to single-mother families who graduate from their program and set out to live on their own. For our next quilt, we'll collect Cracker Scraps blocks based on this tutorial by Angela Pingel.

The fabric requirements for our blocks differ from the tutorial, so please use the following information to cut your fabrics. Then use the tutorial for construction. If you have any questions, please contact elizabeth.rea15@gmail.com for help. Blocks are due at the meeting September 16.

Fabric needs: 4 different warm-tone solids (pink, red, yellow, orange -- any shades) and medium or light gray solid
Note: Please be sure to remove ALL selvage edges from your fabrics before you begin cutting and piecing. Please also take care to use a scant 1/4" seam allowance to ensure consistent block sizes.

Cut list:
  • Gray: Four 6-inch squares and six 2 3/4-x-7 1/4-inch rectangles
  • Color A and Color B: One 6-inch square and one 2 3/4-x-7 1/4-inch rectangle
  • Color C and Color D: One 6-inch square and two 2 3/4-x-7 1/4-inch rectangles
Follow Angela's tutorial for constructing the 4 quadrants using a scant 1/4" seam allowance.
When you have 4 quadrants ready, square them up to 10 inches. Then be sure to lay them out in the proper order before sewing them together. The two colored links should be opposite each other, as seen in the top left and bottom right. The two gray links are top right and bottom left in these examples.
