July 2017 Meeting Recap

We welcomed a number of visitors at our July meeting and even picked up a couple of new members! After a bit of business, we enjoyed a round of show-and-tell and then Jennifer Grace gave a presentation on improv quilting.

Our 4-patch hourglass quilt for The Restoration House just needs binding and then it will be ready to gift to an upcoming graduate. Thanks to all members who contributed colorful blocks, Elizabeth Rea for piecing the top, and Jennifer Grace for longarm quilting.

Our next Restoration House quilt top is ready for quilting. These cool-colored butterfly blocks make for a calming, peaceful quilt. Thanks to all members who contributed blocks. Blocks for our next charity quilt, Cracker Scraps, are due at the September meeting. You can find details here.

June 2017 Meeting Recap

We had an informative meeting in June, followed by an inspiring round of show-and-tell.

Thank you to everyone who supported the KMQG quilt show! The quilts were taken down and will be returned to their owners at the July meeting. If you can't attend that meeting, please email modknoxville@gmail.com to make alternate arrangements.

We're compiling an updated membership directory, so please fill out a form that will be available at the next meeting. Information will be distributed to members later this summer.

The guild's Mod Petals quilt from QuiltCon 2014 was recently auctioned at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, to benefit their rebuilding efforts following the Gatlinburg wildfires. Our 2015 QuiltCon charity quilt inspired by the work of Striped Light's Sarah Shebaro will be auctioned at Arrowmont this fall. You can see the quilts here.

We'll be gifting our last two Restoration House charity quilts (4-patch hourglass blocks and 4-patch butterfly blocks) to graduates at the end of July, and collections are open for our next charity quilt. The block is Cracker Scraps, made with solid gray plus warm colors, and you can find information and a link to a tutorial here. Please read all the information and tutorial first and refer back to the photos to ensure your block is correct. Blocks are due at the meeting on September 16. Contact elizabeth.rea15@gmail.com with questions.

We talked a little bit about whether the group wants to participate in the QuiltCon charity quilt challenge for 2018. The theme is Modern Traditionalism, and details are posted on the MQG site. We're brainstorming ideas and welcome suggestions.

Finally, we saw a lot of great projects for show-and-tell.
